Mauro Vianello- the glass guy

This adorable little penguin was made last week by Mauro Vianello at his shop in San Polo. It took Mauro about 10 minutes to make it, while we watched. I'm always in awe when I see a glass blowing demonstration on Murano of blown glass, but the small figures I see Mauro making are even more awesome. Mauro, who has been blowing glass for over 30 years, is a delightful character. He's always more than happy to make something on requestfor you when you go to his shop, so you can see him perform his magic in person.

Think he could do an English Springer Spaniel? I lost mine to a horrible seizure a month ago and would stop by his shop when I am in Venice in October.

Dianne- If you bring him a photograph, he can do it. I've seen him do some incredible stuff just from rough sketches. I recently took someone there who used Mauro's computer to find him a photo of the breed of dog they wanted, he was able to use that. He's quite unbelievable!

Karen - Just was looking at the blog again and am happy to see the address for Mauro's shop. I will plan on bringing a photo as you suggested of my Springer Spaniel. And I will be sure to tell him that I learned of his shop through your blog. Only a little over 5 weeks before I will be in Venice again. I just enrolled in school again but also look forward to enjoying your beautiful city with my husband for a few days

Hi Dianne!!!
I hope you noted the correction to the address in the comment Mauro left me! Mauro, and his shop, are a must, and I know he can create something from your photo. I'll look forward to seeing you next month, make sure you let me know when you'll be here!

My husband and I arrive on 10/19. He leaves on the 23rd and I will stay one more week, leaving the 30th. Hope that we can get together. I will be staying near to Rialto this time as the apartment that I was at the last time was not available for our entire stay. How is the best way for me to get in touch with you?

Ciao Karen, well I got the English Springer Spaniel glass piece done. It is really cute and we got pictures and a video of him making it. Thanks again for the tip.

Hi Karen,

I am traveling to Venice in July and am going to see Mauro's shop.

I would like some custom pieces of small animals.. if I may ask how much did the Penguin cost?

karen said...

Ciao CJ! Thanks for your message. Mauro's small figures range from 18-25 Euros, depending on size. They might be even more if larger or more complex. If you want custom, Mauro is the guy to go to. Tell him I sent you!
