Yesterday's find

I've tried to keep my little digital camera in my purse at all times, just for occassions like this. Yesterday on our walk, Mike took a slight detour to snap this photo. We've been looking for this spot, but somehow always seem to miss it. Now it's been found! If you are a Katherine Hepburn fan, or a follower of movies having anything remotely to do with Venice, you probably recognize this location.

Karen,
I wonder if you remember that we met in May 2009 in Campo Santa Margherita when I was in Venice studying Italian. I have recorded Summertime on my Tivo and watch it again and again -- if I can't be in Venice right now at least I can look at it. Since the shop where Katherine bought the glass is near C.SM I, of course, have seen it and the canal she fell into but I was wondering where this scene was. Can you give me a clue? I'd love to know what campo it is in.

Hi Diane,

Of course I remember meeting you!

That little antique shop (which unfortunately has just changed owners again and this time is no longer an antique shop, but a children's toy store) is in Campo San Barnaba, on the corner next to the Church of San Barnaba. The canal Katherine Hepburn fell into is at Campo San Barnaba. Hope this helps. Have you got any plans to return soon???

Ciao,
Karen

Hi Karen,
Yes, I know where Camp San Barnaba is. I was wondering where this other campo is -- the one where Katherine washes her face with the little boy. We are going to be in Venice in October and I would love to take my own picture of it.

Karen,
Just thought of another scene from the movie. Have either of you ever found the area of Pensione Fiorini?

Diane,

Mike and I have done a little more research. This photo is in Piscina Venier, which is a street off of C. nuova Piscina Forner, between the Accademia and the Guggenheim.

We've read a few articles about the whereabouts of those Pensione Fiorito scenes. From what we've researched, there wasn't any one site. The outdoor patio scenes where Katherine is seen having a drink with several others, or also writing a letter, was constructed for the movie in Campo San Vio. I also read they did some shoots in Pensione Accademia for interiors.

Hello,
I'm an e-friend of Yvonne. It was from her blog that I found yours. Just want to mention that Pensione Accademia has no connection with Summertime, though it is a very common misconception. For a full discussion, see http://aloverofvenice.com/summertime/Summertime.htm
